Each applicant must submit one photo. The image must be:
- In colours
- Taken within the last six months.
- With a light-colored background (one color only).
- Very focused and of good quality
- Measures 47mm high x 36mm wide
- Head height should be from 25mm to 35mm.
- Edited photos will not be accepted
- Printed on photographic paper • Manipulated images will not be accepted.
- Printed on photo paper.
Transaction Time
Each applicant can apply for a Schengen visa up to 3 months before the intended date of travel to the Schengen Area.
The minimum period for processing a visa application is two weeks, so applicants are advised to leave enough time between the appointment date and the date of travel for the mission to process their visa application. No guarantees can be given on the date of response to the visa application as delays may occur.
For some nationalities, the visa application needs consultation from other Schengen countries, so the minimum processing time takes 3 weeks.
In order to avoid any delays in the visa application process, it is important that the visa application is complete and that its documents submitted are in accordance with the requirements of the mission (see Documents required for different visa categories).
Applicants should also be aware that, especially during the busy season around the holidays (July and August), Christmas and New Year, appointments (see scheduling an appointment) are booked very quickly as the Mission only processes a fixed number of visa applications per day.
Furthermore, applicants must consider that VFS/Mission Closed during holidays and public holidays (see Public Holidays) Visa application processing time may be extended.
Therefore, VFS recommends to all applicants:
- Book an appointment as soon as possible after the travel date has been set.
- Ensure that their visa application documents meet the mission’s requirements
- Leaves sufficient time for the request to be processed by the mission
The mission may always request additional information/documents or invite applicants for an interview during the visa application process, and this may cause delay in the visa process, for which applicants must accept responsibility.

Climate in Greece
